Collection of Heliconias in Botanical Garden Lancetilla
The collection of Heliconias in the Botanical Garden is an example of the importance of conservation of species from the region. The majority of the species that can be seen in this collection originate from Central America. Some are varieties that are known in the horticultural area.
In general has this genus of around 450 species, varieties and hybrids from tropical America, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. But most of these are from the same species. From this base it is calculated that there are around of 200 species known around the world. They require temperatures above 64 deg F (18 °C).
