Durio zibethinus

Bombacaceae

Durian

Origin: Burma to Malaysia

The spiny green to yellow Durian fruit is notorious for its putrid smell.  Predominantly cultivated as a fruit tree in Asia, the Durio zibethinus can grow up to 40 m in the wild.  It can be eaten as tinned fruit, beaten to make a paste, sorbets or ice cream.  The shell of the fruit and leaves are used for medicinal purposes.
