Nephelium lappaceum

Sapindaceae

Rambután

Origin: India & Malaysia

The Rambután fruit was introduced to Lancetilla, Honduras in 1926, and is presently cultivated in many northern zones of Honduras.  The orange/red fruit (similar to lychees), is one of the sweetest and delicious of all tropical fruits.  The skin is soft and prickly, whilst the fruit is an almost white translucent colour.  It is also a good source of vitamin C.  The tree itself can grow up to a height of 5 m.
